Duvets, Comforters. Whats the difference?

Duvet covers are removable and can be laundered easily. If you are looking for an addition to your comforter, or simply a lighter more versatile bed covering, you may want to consider a duvet cover. A duvet cover is a fabric “shell” that is used to cover a down comforter or duvet. You can even use a duvet cover to give new life to that old comforter! Duvet covers are open on one end and can either button, tie or zip shut.

A comforter is a type of blanket. Comforters are intended to keep the user warm, especially during sleep, although they can also be used as mattress pads. Comforters are generally large and rectangular in shape, filled with natural or synthetic insulating material and encased in a shell/covering. The provision of this benefit became fashionable in the late 1990s with many larger companies in the UK.

A Duvet day is a formal allowance of time off given by some employers, most commonly in the United Kingdom and United States.

It can be stipulated formally in a contract of employment and is considered part of the remunerations package along with Holiday allowance. The term has also since become used by people to reference taking a day off work for no normally accepted reason (such as sick, grievance or holiday) even if they have no official “Duvet day” entitlement with their employer.

It differs from Holiday allowance in that no prior notice is needed. An employee receives an allocation of days where if he or she gets up in the morning and doesn’t want to go to work for any reason, he or she can use a “Duvet day”.

Quick Trip to theSouthwest

The southwest, we talked about it the last time. I had the extreme pleasure of a road trip to Santa Fe and Taos last month. What a trip! It was so beautiful. The Rio Grand Gorge carving itself right through the high desert plain, the history of the Taos square. Capitan Hernan Alvarado and his conquistadors first arrived there in 1540. Tiwa Indians are believed to have settled the valley around 1350 A.D. Taos was first colonized by Spain 1615




The old Saint Francisco Church built in 1816. When you walk into the church it's hard to explain the spiritual wonder that consumes you. It is a simple church but it is magnificently grandiose. And one of the most painted and photographed churches in the U.S. I was quite awe inspired the whole time I was in the region. The wonderful architecture, the grand valleys, such a magnificent part of our wonderful country. And there is a lot to do, the excellent restaurants, the galleries, the canyon and museums.


As a lover of southwestern and Native American art an culture one of my favorite galleries and artists is J.D. Challenger. A true grand master of Native American Paintings. I did not have the good fortune of meeting him, he was in Scottsdale for a show the week I was there. Hopefully on my next trip he will be home.

I could go on and on and will in other posts. But it is getting late on this Sunday night and I need my beauty sleep, so I am going to crawl in bed under my southwestern bedspread.
